Columbia man facing charges for rear-ending police car in early June

A man is facing charges related to a crash that sent a Columbia police officer to the hospital in early June.

Daniel Wilson of Columbia is charged with resisting arrest, leaving the scene of a crash and causing over $1,000 in property damage. The charges are in connection with an incident that happened at around 11 p.m. on June 1 at Vandiver Drive and Rangeline Street.

Officers said Wilson put the vehicle in reverse and rammed a fence. The officer who was hit called for emergency assistance.

Authorities said that after the suspect’s vehicle crashed into the fence, multiple people fled from the car.

According to a probable cause statement, Wilson was driving while his license was revoked. The statement also says he had previously been convicted of passing a bad check, stealing, possessing a controlled substance, and receiving stolen property.
