Boone County Fire: 13-year-old girl struck by fireworks

UPDATE: Fire officials told ABC 17 News that they couldn’t find the caller or the girl when they went into the neighborhood to answer the call.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Boone County Fire Department said a 13-year-old girl was hit in the leg by fireworks on Demaret Drive Wednesday night.

ABC 17 News heard reports of an injury on Demaret around 10:51 p.m.

Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District said a 13-year-old female with asthma was having trouble breathing from firework smoke. He said she was also hit in the leg by fireworks.

As ABC 17 News previously reported, some residents in Columbia were planning to participate in an annual “Fireworks War.” It is illegal to possess fireworks or fire them inside the city limits.
