Multiple heat related illness reports amid holiday celebration

At least three people have needed assistance from emergency responders in downtown Jefferson City since the start of the holiday, according to Jefferson City Fire Division Chief Jason Turner.

None of the incidents resulted in serious injuries, but all were heat related, Turner said.

ABC 17 News crews saw Jefferson City Police and Fire crews assist one person who had collapsed from the heat. Cole County EMS personnel also assisted in transporting the individual on a stretcher.

Turner and organizers of the Salute to America encourage everyone to stay hydrated and to notify emergency crews of any medical incident.
