Fireworks: Where you can and can’t use them in mid-Missouri
Law enforcement agencies across mid-Missouri have started posting on their social media pages where fireworks are not allowed.
Fireworks are allowed in county limits, but several cities have laws either prohibiting the use of certain kinds of fireworks, when they can be used and where they are prohibited.
Residents within the Columbia city limits are not allowed to sell or use fireworks, expect for sparklers, unless approved by the city for special events, according to city ordinances.
Ashland residents cannot sell or discharge fireworks within city limits, unless permitted by the mayor.
Fulton police posted on the department’s Facebook page that fireworks are only allowed within city limits July 3-5 from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., and for New Years Eve.
The Jefferson City Facebook page says fireworks are completely prohibited inside city limits. Police urged residents to attend the event Salute to America instead of buying and using their own fireworks.
For those going to the Lake of the Ozarks for Independence Day, the city ordinance for Osage Beach states the use of fireworks is illegal unless a permit is obtained from the city. The city ordinance for Lake Ozark states the use of fireworks is prohibited unless supervised by the chief of police or any person the chief may designate, after first getting permission in writing from the city.
Distribution and use of fireworks in Camdenton is illegal, according to city ordinance.
The sale of fireworks in the Moberly city limit is prohibited unless they comply with state fireworks regulation. The use of fireworks is allowed only July 2-4 from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.
