UM system president’s report focuses on salary issues, need to grow research

UPDATE: UM System President Mun Choi said the system is developing a “long term program to address salary issues” and will be giving employees merit-based pay raises.

Choi made his remarks during his president’s report Friday at the UM Board of Curators meeting in Columbia.

Citing the Chronicle of Higher Education, Choi said salaries for MU assistant professors rank 114 out of 115 when compared to similar universities. MU Chancellor Alexander Cartwright previously said the university has set aside $6.2 million to fund merit-based raises.

Choi also focused on research during his report, noting that there is a lot of work to be done in order to achieve excellence. He said the university must create new revenue and reallocate funding from current programs to support priority programs.

Cartwright also gave an update on Mizzou’s marketing campaign with 160over90. He shared a clip that will be used at SEC takeover days and said the partnership is going well.

As ABC 17 News previously reported, the university hired the branding agency to help increase enrollment. The contract is for three years and is estimated at $1.27 million.

ORIGINAL: The University of Missouri Board of Curators are scheduled to meet Friday for day two of meetings on Mizzou’s campus.
