Seasonal weekend, with a scattered storms expected

FRIDAY: It will be another cool, yet pleasant afternoon across Mid-Missouri. Temperatures this afternoon will struggle to climb out of the upper 60s and lower 70s, as stubborn low level clouds remain in place. A few scattered showers can’t be ruled out along and west of Hwy 63, but overall most locations should remain on the dry side. Winds through the day will remain out of the northwest up to 10 mph.

TONIGHT: Overcast skies look to remain in place across Mid-Missouri into the night, with some areas of patchy fog expected to develop. However, winds out of the north up 7 mph could keep many areas from seeing the fog, as drier air tracks in. Overnight it will be cool, with a low of 61 degrees.

EXTENDED: A few areas could see scattered showers and storms in southern Mid-Missouri by daybreak. This comes as an MCS tracks out of Kansas bringing with it the threat for a few strong storms. The bulk of the activity will remain south of I-44, but can’t rule out storms as far north as the Lake of the Ozarks. Into the afternoon hours we could see a few strong storms develop along and south of I-70. Currently a marginal risk for severe weather is in place, with the main threat being damaging winds and large hail. However, with the recent cooler weather and cloudy skies it will take the atmosphere some time to recover. This will likely limit our severe threat as we head into Saturday, although temperatures will be warmer. We’ll warm in the low 80s Saturday and into the mid to upper 80s Sunday. Only isolated storms are expected Sunday with most of the day dry and warm. It will feel more humid Sunday as dew points climb into the upper 60s. Temperatures will continue heating back up next week, reaching 90 by Tuesday. By the middle of next week, another heat wave takes hold across the Midwest, bringing the return to the mid to upper 90s for highs.
