First official day of summer brings rain and below average temps
THURSDAY: Summer officially begins at 5:07 AM but it will actually be a mild day with highs in the 70s. Showers and t-storms will increase from late morning through the afternoon and will be scattered as a low pressure area slowly moves through. Winds will come in from the west, shifting to the northwest overnight.
TONIGHT: Showers and t-storms will decrease again late this evening with some isolated storms still possible overnight. Under clouds skies with winds out of the west to northwest from 5-9 mph, temperatures will drop into the low 60s by morning.
EXTENDED: By Friday as the low pushes eastward, most of the rainfall will be scattered east of HWY 63. Temperatures will be mild for summer, only reaching the mid to upper 70s Friday with northwesterly winds up to 12 mph. Showers taper off in the evening and temperatures drop to the low 60s overnight. Saturday will start off dry with partly cloudy skies, but as a decaying MCS approaches from the southwest we will see increasing rain chances Saturday afternoon. If the system holds together for areas south of I-70 we have a chance to see damaging winds and large hail as we are under a marginal threat for severe weather. We’ll warm in the low to mid 80s by Sunday with storm chances decreasing through Sunday. Temperatures will continue heating back up next week, reaching 90 by Wednesday.
