Relief from the heat is here, but not without some rainfall
WEDNESDAY: Outside of a few isolated storms in the morning, it will be another mild and warm start to the day. Temperatures will be sitting in the lower 70s and gradually climb into the upper 80s through the day. It will still be humid, with likely higher dew points as a cold front slowly tracks to the south. Storms are expected to fire into the afternoon during peak heating of the day and could bring the threat for damaging winds and large hail. All of mid-Missouri is in a marginal risk for severe weather. Overall though, the same trend will take shape in that the greatest threat will be heavy downpours and frequent lightning. Winds through the day will remain out of the southwest up to 11 mph.
TONIGHT: Showers and t-storms will decrease late tonight providing for some dry time after midnight and for the morning commute. Overnight lows drop back into the 60s creating for a more comfortable with winds out of the southwest from 5-8 mph.
EXTENDED: The upper level ridge that has been responsible for our heatwave takes a backseat through the rest of the week. Thanks to an active weather pattern, daily storm chances and cooler weather will bring relief from the heat. Upper level waves of low pressure will move through, sparking storm chances. As a surface low pressure area and cold front move through Thursday into early Friday, rain will become more widespread. Increasing rain chances will provide for some drought relief across the area within the next 7 days. By Friday as the low pushes eastward, most of the rainfall will be scattered east of HWY 63. By the end of the week higher rainfall totals look to be north of I-70, which could range up to 3″-5″, and up to 1.5″ – 3″ south. With the area experiencing a drought of some kind for quite awhile, we can deal with a good amount of rain. However, if we begin to see training of storms and locations exceed 3+ inches of rain before the middle of the week, we could begin to see some flooding problems.
