Two people in custody after traffic stop, crash in Columbia

Two people were taken into custody late Wednesday night after a crash near Vandiver Drive and Highway 63 in Columbia.

Police on scene told ABC 17 News an officer pulled a vehicle over in the Home Depot parking lot near the connector. After stopping, the vehicle drove off. According to police, the officer who initiated the stop did not pursue the vehicle.

A short time later, a different officer in the area of Vandiver Drive and Highway 63 heard tires squeal. The officer responded to find a crash involving the suspect vehicle.

Officers said two people were taken into custody and one of those people was also taken to the hospital.

The scene was clear as of 11 p.m.
