Madison Street to reopen Friday, more than a week after wall collapse
Madison Street will open back up for traffic at 6 a.m. Friday morning, more than a week after a wall on the corner of East High Street and Madison Street in Jefferson City collapsed, canceling Thursday Night Live.
Britt Smith, Jefferson City Public Works Operations Divisions Director said, “Obviously there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, but with this change, we are trying to get back to where it’s a little bit more normal for everyone.”
This week’s Thursday Night Live is scheduled with a new location, just a block away from the street from where the wall collapsed.
The Jefferson City Police Department said they are not providing any more officer’s than usual to patrol the downtown area where the wall collapsed.
Lieutenant David Williams of JCPD said the building’s owner provides private security when crews are not at the scene working around the building.
“The owner has utilized security to keep people out during various stages of it,” Williams said. “There is someone monitoring the site when workers are not present.”
Smith said the owner has two options, repair or replace the building but said the owner has not made a decision on what to do.
