Storm chance Thursday, rising heat and humidity

TONIGHT: It will be a pleasant night across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures bottom out near 65 degrees. Winds will slowly begin to shift from the east to the south through the night, marking a return to the heat and humidity that will build in for the rest of the week. There is a slight chance we could see some storms track into Mid-Missouri into early Thursday morning mainly north of HWY 24.

THURSDAY: The heat returns as we head into Thursday afternoon, as highs are expected to top out in the lower 90s with heat indices reaching the upper 90s. There is a chance of spotty afternoon to early evening storms as a warm front moves through but severe storms are not expected.

EXTENDED: As an upper level ridge builds over the area and strengthens, it will cause temperatures to rise into the mid 90s for highs starting Friday and lasting through Sunday. With the humid conditions expected, heat indices will likely top out at 100-103 degrees each day. Now is the time to go ahead and make heat preparations if you are going to be outside for extended periods of time, as you will want to watch out for signs of heat exhaustion. We stay dry from Friday and lasting through Sunday, with rain chances looking to increase early next week as we tap into gulf moisture and the upper level ridge weakens slightly.
