Pleasant Afternoon Today, Heat and Humidity Returning

TODAY : Quiet weather will continue into the afternoon hours. Clouds will be on the decrease as a weak cold front tracks through the region, which is also brings more northerly winds. During the afternoon hours as peak heating occurs, it’s likely we could see a few spot storms fire along the cold front. Aside from that small chance today will be dry, with plenty of sunshine into the afternoon hours. Highs are expected to top out near 86 degrees, with heat indices near 92.

TONIGHT: It will be a pleasant night across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures bottom out near 65 degrees. Winds will slowly begin to shift from the east to the south through the night, marking a return to the heat and humidity that will build in for the rest of the week. There is a slight chance we could see some storms track into Mid-Missouri through the night into early Thursday morning, as storms form north of the KC Metro along a lifting warm front and strengthening LLJ.

EXTENDED: The heat returns as we head into Thursday afternoon, as highs are expected to top out in the lower 90s. As an upper level ridge moves into the area and strengthens, it will bring the mid 90s for highs starting Friday and lasting through Sunday. With the humid conditions expected, heat indices will likely top out near 100 degrees. Now is the time to go ahead and make heat preparations if you are going to be outside for extended periods of time, as you will want to watch out for signs of heat exhaustion.
