Vehicle crashes into food bank, leaves scene

UPDATE 11:37 A.M.: Officers were called to The Food Bank at 2101 Vandiver Drive just after 10 p.m. on Thursday in reference to a vehicle collision into a building.

According to police, the investigation revealed John Murphy’s vehicle crashed into the business. Murphy left the scene without telling the business or law enforcement.

Murphy returned to the business later where he was detained. The estimated damage to the business is approximately $25,000. Murphy was arrested for felony leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

ORIGINAL STORY: Police are investigating after a vehicle crashed into the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri in Columbia and left the scene.

Officers said they received a call from a witness who said a vehicle crashed into the building. Police arrived to the 2100 block of Vandiver Drive and found damage to the building, but no vehicle.

The Columbia Fire Department was also dispatched to the crash shortly after 10 p.m.

Both firefighters and police searched the building, but did not find anyone.
