Building wall collapses on Madison St. in Jefferson City

UPDATE 2:24 P.M.: According to the event director, there will no longer be any live music and the entire event is officially canceled for tonight.

Bars will be open, but Madison Street is completely closed.

ORIGINAL STORY: A building wall collapse next to the stage for Thursday Night Live in Jefferson City has canceled the event.

JCPD said in a press release that no one was injured but the scene is still active.

According to a Facebook post on the event page, the building is located at the corner of High St. and Madison St. The actual address of the building is 200 E. High St.

Jason Turner with the Jefferson City Fire Department explains in a Facebook Live that they’re assessing the situation.

The video goes on to explain that there will be no music on the stage, but there will be live music starting around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. that can be watched from the sidewalk.

JC building inspectors are also on the scene.

Jefferson City MO: At 10:00am the Jefferson City Fire Department and the Jefferson City Police Department responded to a report of a building collapse in the area of Madison and High St. Upon arrival emergency personnel found part of a wall that had collapsed onto the sidewalk of Madison St. near High St.
Firefighters immediately ensured that the three story structure was vacant and no one was injured. A pedestrian area in the Madison and High Street has been closed but motor traffic is still allowed however restricted, on High Street.
Public Works, and Building Inspectors, Street Department and Thursday Night Live personnel are assisting emergency personnel on the scene at this time.

This is an active scene; emergency personnel are awaiting structural engineers to assess the building.
