Democrat Lauren Arthur wins state Senate seat days after Greitens resignation

Democratic state Rep. Lauren Arthur has won a state Senate seat in Missouri’s first special election since former Republican Gov. Eric Greitens resigned.

Arthur beat Republican state Rep. Kevin Corlew Tuesday night. She will represent District 17 in Clay County. The seat was previously held by Republican Ryan Silvey, who stepped down in January.

According to MissouriNet, Arthur is the first Democrat to be elected to the Missouri Senate from Clay County since Ed Quick, who served until 2004.
