Carl DeBrodie’s former guardian says defendants ‘have no goodness in them’

Mary Martin, the former guardian of Carl DeBrodie, said Tuesday morning she is absolutely thrilled there have been arrests made in the case, but is hoping for more charges on those recently arrested.

Martin tells ABC 17 News she’s happy that the ball is rolling, but at this point, she just wants to know why.

“He would not hurt a fly. Why did you want to torture him so bad? He was a human being with feelings and love and that’s all Carl ever wanted, was to be cuddled and loved. Why?” said Martin.

Martin said she is hoping the manslaughter charges are increased to murder charges but understands all information is not yet released. She said she can’t predict what the future holds.

A Callaway County grand jury indicted five defendants in the death of Carl DeBrodie:

Anthony R. Flores., Anthony R. K. Flores, Sherry Paulo, Shaina Osbourne and Mary Paulo.

Martin said what the defendants did to Carl was for a “thrill” and that “these defendants have no human emotions at all.”

“I may not be a religious person but I believe you can be good and they have no goodness in them,” Martin said.

According to Martin, Sherry Paulo has been evil from the beginning, but Anthony R. Flores worked for her husband.

“I want to go to the jail and ask him why? Specifically Anthony, because he was close to my family. He came to my house!” Martin said.

Another Fulton resident, Kaylee Hare, organized a fundraiser and donated roughly 500 dollars to Memorial Park for a bench in memory of Carl DeBrodie.

Hare said this case really affected her and she knew she needed to do something about it. The bench was placed in the park sometime last summer.
