Judge denies request to remove Missouri attorney general from Shayne Healea’s case

A judge denied a request by lawyers for Moniteau County Prosecutor Shayne Healea at the Macon County courthouse Friday afternoon.

Attorneys appeared in court around 2 p.m. for a motion hearing to determine the status of Healea’s request to remove Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley’s Office from the case.

The judge also continued the hearing until the state subpoenas a representative from the Columbia Police Department or the state provides evidence that a video recording of a conversation between Healea and his lawyer after his arrest in 2014 has been destroyed.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled in the case for Aug. 22 at 3 p.m. in Macon County.

Healea is accused of driving his truck into Addison’s Restaurant in downtown Columbia in 2014.

Four people were hurt in the crash.

Healea is charged in Boone County with felony second-degree assault — operating a vehicle while intoxicated that resulted in injury.
