Hearing takes place for A New Missouri, nonprofit connected to governor
A hearing for the Missouri House of Representatives v. A New Missouri took place Wednesday morning.
ABC 17 previously reported that the special committee investigating Gov. Eric Greitens wants a judge to enforce two subpoenas on Greitens’ campaign and a nonprofit connected to him.
Minutes before the hearing, Mark Kempton, the attorney representing the special committee, said he limited the request of documents the committee wants because of the small time frame the committee is under.
Kempton said he wants documents related to any coordination between Greitens for Missouri and A New Missouri, and how A New Missouri used its donations.
Catherine Hanaway, the attorney representing both groups, said Greitens for Missouri handed over most of the documents that were requested, and that because A New Missouri is a not-for-profit organization, what is done with its donations is private, as well as its contributors.
Hanaway said Gov. Greitens isn’t involved in A New Missouri, but he has advocated for issues that the group cares about. She continued to say there are no allegations against the governor involving A New Missouri.
The judge said both sides had until the end of the business day on Friday to file any more orders for the court to consider.
The committee issued requests to Greitens for Missouri and A New Missouri, Inc. on May 3 seeking information related to coordination between the two groups. The latter group was formed weeks after Greitens was sworn into office. It includes campaign staff members connected to the nonprofit group.
