Mizzou begins search for new head softball coach

Mizzou softball will have a permanent head softball coach, according to a statement from MU Athletic Director Jim Sterk.

Sterk released a statement on Tuesday saying a national search is now underway to find a new head softball coach. The release did not say Gina Fogue would be considered for the position.

Fogue coached the Tigers during 2018 season as the interim head coach after Sterk fired former head coach Ehren Earleywine in January just two weeks before the season.

In the statement Sterk said, “Our program enjoys a rich tradition, plays in a state-of-the-art facility and competes in the nation’s toughest conference, and it is our desire to build upon past successes moving forward. We will not utilize a search consultant in this process, and in order to protect the integrity of the search, I will have no further public comments regarding the process or the status of any candidates until the announcement of Mizzou’s next head softball coach is made.”

Mizzou finished last in the SEC during the 2018 season under Fogue and missed the conference tournament. It is the worst SEC finish for Mizzou in program history. The Tigers finished 30-29 overall and 6-17 in the SEC.

Mizzou’s season came to an end Sunday in NCAA Regionals after a 7-0 loss to Oklahoma.
