Natural cover fires delay traffic on I-70

Several natural cover fires are causing traffic congestion on Interstate 70 in the westbound lanes near Highway BB, according to Boone County Joint Communications.

Online dispatch records indicate the fires started around 1 p.m. Thursday.

The agency is urging drivers to find a different route.

MoDOT Central District also warned drivers about possible delays Thursday afternoon.

A tweet said, “westbound delays possible at mile marker 118 west of Columbia (Boone County) due to a grass fire on the side of the road.”
