Dry with record warmth possible into the weekend
THURSDAY: It’s another toasty afternoon across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures are expected to top out near 90 degrees. Even with clouds in place, the brisk southwest will aid in warming us into the day. While we will be dry for most of the afternoon hours, isolated showers and storms will be possible for areas along and north of I-70 as we head beyond 4 PM. No severe weather is expected with this storms, but some storms could bring some heavy rain in an area beginning to see a drought develop.
TONIGHT: Another mild night is in store with warm temperatures expected under mostly clear skies. Low temperatures will bottom out in the mid 60s by daybreak with a slight breeze out of the south from 6-10
EXTENDED: The warmest day of the year looks to arrive as we head into Friday, as highs top out near 90 degrees. Temperatures are nearly 20 degrees above average for this time of year, as highs into the weekend remain near 90 degrees. Our average first 90 degree for Columbia is May 31, so summer has made an early appearance here in Mid-Missouri. We remain dry into the weekend, as a shallow upper level ridge keeps any afternoon storms well to our north, near the Missouri/Iowa border. Saturday afternoon looks dry and very warm as we reach the upper 80s to near 90 once again. Mother’s Day will be a dry and toasty one, with temperatures remaining in the upper 80s. Cloud coverage will give some relief from the afternoon sun and thankfully low humidity will keep the heat indices in check. Next week looks to bring slightly cooler temperatures with a better chance of some storms tracking into the region. Watch ABC 17 News for the newest forecast and check back here for updates.
