Water main hit on Conley Road by private contractor, water still safe to drink
UPDATE 2:33 P.M.: The City of Columbia sent out the following update:
“Earlier this morning, City of Columbia Water & Light crews were dispatched after being notified of slight discoloration and drop in water pressure. After further investigation, it was determined that a 12 inch water main belonging to City of Columbia was hit by a private electric contractor. City crews were able to isolate the issue without shutting off the water. A City inspector from Water Engineering are [sic] on site, along with Emery Sapp & Sons, who have begun repair.
Water & Light crews are flushing the water mains now. The drop in pressure was not significant enough to require further precautions. Discoloration is a result of calcium bicarbonate and is safe for consumption. Further information will be shared as it becomes available.”
ORIGINAL STORY: A private contractor has hit a water distribution main along Conley Road, according to the City of Columbia.
Repairs are being started. The City of Columbia also said there are reports of brown water in the Sams/Lowes area and into downtown.
The city has not said whether the water is safe to drink or not.
