House leadership to seek special session for governor’s impeachment process
Top members of the state House of Representatives agree there is not enough time left in the regular session to both finish the budget and impeach Gov. Eric Greitens, according to Rep. Gail McCann Beatty (D-Kansas City).
McCann Beatty, the House minority floor leader, said Tuesday that articles of impeachment should be filed by representatives in a special session, which would call lawmakers back to the Capitol after the regular session ends on May 18.
“There is only a couple weeks left in the session, so we’ll do the budget next week. There is really no way around us doing a special session,” McCann Beatty said.
The statement comes after a House Investigative Committee issued a report on the governor’s use of a charity donor list. The report says Greitens wrongly used the nonprofits list of donors to raise money for his gubernatorial campaign.
