House releases new information in the Greitens’ investigation

A new report by the committee investigating the first felony charge against Gov. Eric Greitens issued a new report on Monday.

The report disputes claims made by the governor that his former mistress has given inconsistent testimony

This is not the much-anticipated second report, rather an addendum to the first report.

Gov. Greitens’ defense team called the report “more false information that has not been subject to cross-examination.”

ABC 17 News asked the governor’s office for a response or statement from Greitens, but trying to get him to go on camera has been a trick for most Missouri reporters.

This supplemental report disputes the governor’s claim that Witness 1 – the former mistress in the case – gave inconsistent testimony in her nearly 10 hour testimony to the St. Louis circuit attorney and the House committee investigation regarding Greitens’ actions surrounding the 2015 affair and subsequent invasion of privacy charge. He’s accused of taking a partially nude picture of the woman and threatening to blackmail her if she ever spoke of their encounters.

The report also claims Greitens slapped, shoved and touched her without permission.

The governor admits to the affair but denies the violence and criminal allegations.

The Greitens Legal Defense team released a statement about an hour after the House report was published. It read, in part: “As the Governor has said before, the allegations made against him are false. Any allegation of sexual violence, coercion, or assault are completely and totally untrue. He is innocent…”

The governor continues to call the committee’s investigation a “political witch hunt.”

Regardless, the report bolsters the credibility of the witness – according to the bi-partisan committee of lawmakers.

The case continues to build for a possible special session to consider impeachment, as the governor has refused calls for his resignation.
