Man chases woman into Columbia police station with gun, police say

UPDATE 9 p.m.: The Columbia Police Department has identified the suspect as Daleron Monroe, 31, of Columbia.

Police said Monroe was sending the victim threatening messages Saturday night. Monroe and the woman were previously in a relationship.

UPDATE 12:15 p.m.: Columbia police said a woman is safe after a disturbance with a gun ended outside of the Columbia Police Department lobby Sunday morning.

Police said that Boone County Joint Communications got a call around 7:15 a.m. about a man waving a gun outside of a vehicle while following a woman who was in a separate vehicle. The woman was on her way to the police department and said the man was trying to kill her.

As the two vehicles got closer to the department, they crashed into a parked vehicle on Walnut Street. The victim, 37, ran inside the CPD lobby, police said.

Police said the man tried to follow the victim, but officers chased the man back to the vehicle and struggled with him to take the gun away. Officers were able to disarm the man.

After the struggle, the man ran away and officers followed, police said. Police again struggled with the man in the 400 block of Park Avenue, but were able to eventually detain him.

Police confirmed that only one officer sustained minor scrapes and bruising during the incident. They said the amount of damage to the vehicle is unknown at this time.

Police said the incident is under investigation.

ORIGINAL: Columbia police said they took a man into custody Sunday morning after he allegedly chased a woman into the police station with a gun.

According to dispatch reports, the incident happened around 7 a.m. Sunday.

Police said that after the man chased the woman into the station, officers chased the man to the 400 block of Park Avenue. Police said they were able to get the gun away from the man and no shots were fired.

Officers involved suffered minor scrapes and bruises during the incident, but no one else was physically injured, police said.

Columbia police are investigating the incident.
