Callaway County authorities investigate homicide

UPDATE 2:10 P.M.: The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it is investigating a homicide.

Authorities said deputies responded to a home on Platinum Road around 1:40 a.m. Friday morning and found a deceased man inside.

Gary Ridenhour, who has lived in the area for 30 years, said he was woken up to a deputy knocking on his door early in the morning.

“t’s really a quiet neighborhood and we never hard anything like this before,” he said.

According to the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation was classified as a homicide following an autopsy at the Boone-Callaway County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The sheriff’s office has not released the man’s name or manner of death.

ABC 17 News spoke to the family who rented out the property. They said the man had only been renting from them for a few months, but said there had been no issues.

The Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad has been activated and will assist with the investigation.

UPDATE 7:50 A.M.: ABC 17 crews on scene saw authorities go into the home with a stretcher and leave the home with a body bag on the stretcher. We will continue to work to find out more.

ORIGINAL STORY: Callaway County deputies placed crime scene tape around a house in Holts Summit early Friday morning.

ABC 17 News crews arrived to the scene on Platinum Road just after 3:30 a.m. and witnessed officers going in and out of the house and taking photographs.

Deputies on scene said a spokesperson for the department would be on scene soon to brief ABC 17 News crews.
