UPDATE: Woman dies, man charged with murder after Saturday night crash
UPDATE 4/18: Court documents confirm that the man who was charged with murder is connected to the crash that happened on Saturday night.
Police said when they made contact with Monroe on the night of the crash, he smelled like alcohol. Officers also said Monroe’s eyes were bloodshot and watery.
According to the probable cause statement, Monroe admitted to drinking alcohol.
Police said on Monday they were able to confirm that the woman who was also on the motorcycle had died from her injuries.
Court documents also state that Monroe did not have a driver’s license and had seven prior convictions for operating a car without a license and had five prior convictions for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
ORIGINAL STORY: A Columbia man has been charged with second degree murder.
According to public court records, Aaron Monroe was charged on Tuesday and his bond was set at $250,000.
A man with the same name was in a crash on Saturday night in Columbia. According to police, the crash happened when a motorcycle was traveling northbound on Paris Road and ran a red light.
The motorcycle hit a car and ejected both people on the motorcycle.
The motorcycle driver, Monroe, was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Officers believe that alcohol or drug use was a factor in the crash.
The motorcycle passenger, Michele Groves, was taken to the hospital with serious/ life-threatening injuries.
