Lake Ozark police arrest man accused of stealing money from convenience store

Lake Ozark police arrested Troy Burtnik on Sunday after officers responded to the Minit Mart on Bagnell Dam Boulevard for reports of a robbery.

According to the probable cause statement, a woman said she had closed the store but failed to lock one of the front doors. She said she was cleaning up vomit from the bathroom and returned to find approximately $1,424 stolen from behind the counter.

The woman claimed only a select few people know where the money is kept.

Surveillance footage showed a man enter the store with a brown Carhartt jacket with white paint on it. The suspect was carrying a black Spiderman back pack and went straight to where all the money is kept.

Officers said the woman gave them permission to go through her phone, which showed phone calls to Burtnick. She later admitted to police that her and Burtnick were facing eviction and needed money.

Police asked Burtnick about the incident and saw many inconsistencies with the story.

According to the probable cause statement, one of Burtnick’s friends admitted that he drove Burtnick to the store and knew he had stolen the money.

Burtnick was charged with burglary and stealing.
