Mizzou lands Illinois transfer Mark Smith

Cuonzo Martin may have his point guard of the future after Illinois transfer Mark Smith chose Mizzou.

Smith committed to Mizzou according to his Twitter account late Saturday night.

According to NCAA transfer rules, Smith will have to sit out the 2018-19 season before being eligible to play. Smith will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out one season.

Smith was a highly coveted recruit coming out of high school and was a four-star recruit according to Rivals.com.

Smith averaged 5.8 points per game and 1.4 rebounds with Illinois this past season. He played in 31 games while starting 19 with Illinois.

Smith is 6’4″ and can play multiple positions. He joins Xavier Pinson, Torrence Watson, Javon pickett and K.J. Santos as a part of Mizzou’s 2018 recruiting class.

Martin still has two scholarships available if Jontay Porter decides to go to the NBA Draft. Four-star Webster Groves guard Courtney Ramey is expected to make his decision soon with Mizzou in the mix.
