Weather Alert Day: Severe are expected tonight

TODAY: We’ll have a warm, windy day with highs in the mid to upper 70s and southerly winds at 18-22 mph, gusting up to 35 mph. Spot showers are possible Friday morning to early afternoon but most rain holds off until late in the day. Scattered storms are expected to develop in western Missouri after 6 PM and move east to near HWY 65 by 8 PM. These could be severe with all modes of severe weather possible, including a tornado. These storms are expected to for a line and track east through the evening, with the severe threat decreasing east of HWY 63 to mainly damaging winds. TONIGHT: Storms will continue to track east through the area weakening as we head into the night. From 10 PM to midnight storms will approach HWY 63 and exit our eastern counties close to 2 AM. Breezy southwesterly winds will remain in place as skies gradually clear by morning. Overnight lows drop back into the 40s.

EXTENDED: Saturday morning shows cooler and breezy conditions to start the weekend. Highs will reach the mid to upper 50s Saturday with a slight chance of light rain showers with gusty westerly winds. Colder air moves in and we’ll drop into the low to mid 30s by Sunday morning as light rain and snow develops. A brief period of light snow is possible early Sunday morning, mainly north of I-70, changing back to rain before ending by early afternoon. It will be chilly Sunday with high temperatures only reaching the low to mid 40s and another freeze Sunday night as we dip to near 30.
