Weather Alert Day Friday: evening severe storms

The ABC 17 Stormtrack weather team has issued a weather alert day for Friday evening into the night.

A weather alert day is issued when the meteorologists believe severe weather will likely impact the area and could affect your daily routine. You can read more about what a weather alert day means for you here.

TORNADO WATCH AREA HAS BEEN EXPANDED EAST- UNTIL 1 AM: It includes Maries, Phelps, Pulaski, Osage & Gasconade Counties

Storms will continue to move northeast into areas along and east of HWY 54.These will have the potential of producing a tornado along with large hail to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts to 70 mph. The severe threat in this area looks highest from 8-10 PM for areas east of HWY 54 and south of HWY 50.

THREATS:

All modes of severe weather exist Friday evening with damaging winds and large hail the main threats and a lower tornado threat. Storms moving in from the southwest could strengthen and produce winds up to 70 mph, hail up to 2 inches in diameter or a tornado. Heavy rain will fall with some of the storms with amounts up to an inch and a half south of HWY 54.
