Is there an end in sight to the winter cold?
Winter has not been one to give up this year, as we’re all aware. This weekend will be no different.
Saturday won’t be all that bad, but with temperatures in the 50s most of the day and strong gusty winds, not going to feel like we did on Thursday where temperatures topped out in the middle 80s.
So what’s the deal? Will winter ever be on it’s way out? Well, yes, of course at some point we won’t see snow in the forecast… and yes, it’s not totally uncommon to see snow in April, but at the frequency and strength of these cold blasts, it’s a little more rare. Granted, we’ve even seen snow in mid-Missouri as late as May 13th! Although, that was more than 60 years ago, in 1953…
Will we see that in 2018? Likely not, but for those looking for more 80s, the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is thinking otherwise.
Here’s a look at what temperatures look like through the end of April according to the CPC:
Thankfully we don’t see nearly the strength of the cool air as what we had seen to begin the month of April. In the upcoming pattern, we’d likely see temperatures up to 10 degrees below average for this time of year. Normally we’re in the upper 60s to low 70s, for now it looks like we’ll see days in the upper 50s and low 60s instead. Our 7 day temperature forecast is representative of that as well:
Something to note is that the warmth we saw at end of this week was fairly abnormal as well. It would seem that we are headed to a pattern that wants to finally hold steady, even if it’s a little colder than average, but our chances of seeing anymore snow outside of Sunday look to be over for the 2017-2018 snowfall season.
As always, stay tuned to ABC 17 where we’ll continue to track any more oddities in the weather and bring it to you on the Station where the News and Weather come first.
