Timeline: Greitens affair revealed to investigative committee’s report
In the wake of the release of the committee’s report, ABC 17 News breaks down a timeline of when and how this house committee was formed.
1/10 – Affair and Blackmail Made Public:Governor Greitens’ extra-marital affair and alleged blackmail is made public by a KMOV report on night of the State of the State address. He admitted to the affair but denied the alleged blackmail.
1/11 – St. Louis Prosecuting Attorney Announces Investigation:St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner indicates she will begin an investigation into the allegations of blackmail.
2/22 – Governor Greitens is Indicted:
Greitens is indicted by a Grand Jury on a felony charge of invasion of personal privacy.
2/26 – House Investigative Committee Formed:
House Speaker Todd Richardson (R) announced he’s formed a committee to investigative the governor’s invasion of privacy charge. Rep. Jay Barnes (R) is named as its head. Committee is on a “fact-finding mission” only and indicates members only have 40 days to complete their work.
3/6 – Investigative Committee Meets for the First Time:
Barnes tells reporters at the Capitol that the committee meetings will be closed to protect witnesses.
3/7-4/5 – Investigative Committee Begins Meetings:
The committee meets about 10 times between 3/7 and 4/5, either at the Jefferson City Police Department or the Capitol. All of this is done behind closed doors. ABC 17 learns the ex-husband of the governor’s former mistress testifies at least once to the committee
4/5 – Committee Members Announces It Will Release a Report:
Barnes and Richardson say a report will be available the week of 4/9. Rep. Gina Mitten confirms on 4/9 that the report will be released Wednesday, April 11.
