Another beautiful day today, with severe storms possible tomorrow
THURSDAY: It will be one of the warmest start to the morning we’ve seen in quite some time. Temperatures are expected to quickly climb into the 70s and lower 80s through the day, as southwesterly winds continue to pump in warmth and moisture. A few passing clouds are possible through the day, with increasing humidity. At times it could be muggy outside during the day. Winds will be out of the southwest up to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
TONIGHT: It will be a warm evening again across Mid-Missouri, with winds holding tight out of the southwest from 14-18 mph with gusty conditions. Most of the night will see clear skies, but by morning we are going to see increasing clouds into the area as overnight lows hold onto the low to mid 60s.
EXTENDED: Another cold front approaches on Friday bringing clouds and a chance for rain & t-storms. Due to the threat for severe storms, a weather alert day has been issued for Friday. Showers are possible Friday morning but a line of showers and t-storms is more likely later in the day as the cold front gets closer. With a scattered strong storms possible, we could see damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado. The Storm Prediction Center has areas along and west of Hwy 63 under a slight risk for severe weather. With storms expected to fire near the Kansas City Metro and southwest Missouri early on in the afternoon, it’s important to be alert through the day. As storms race to the east they will quickly lose steam, as the energy associated with this system is west of Hwy 65, but the threat still remains for parts of Mid-Missouri. Scattered storms look possible here in mid-Missouri after 2 PM. Late afternoon and early evening will be like the most likely time for us to see some organized strong to severe storms. Once the sun sets close to 8 PM the severe threat decreases, but we could still see strong thunderstorms in the area until just after 11 PM Friday night. This is something we are going to continue to track as we head into Friday afternoon and evening. Much cooler air moves in next weekend with highs in the low to mid 50s Saturday and low to mid 40s Sunday. Nights will drop back to near freezing. We’re also watching for light precipitation Sunday which could start as a rain/ snow mix. Stay tuned to ABC 17 for the latest forecast and updates.
