UPDATE: 4 people out of home after Columbia fire crews respond to duplex fire on Ash Street
UPDATE 8:20 a.m.: Four people are without a home Tuesday morning after a duplex caught fire on Ash Street, Columbia fire officials said.
Firefighters said it took them about 15 minutes to extinguish the fire.
Officials said the duplex had working smoke detectors, which helped the residents evacuate safely.
Fire investigators determined that the fire started near the clothes dryer, which was on at the time of the fire, officials said.
The residents have found a temporary place to stay, officials said. They said the cost of damage is about $120,000.
ORIGINAL: Columbia fire crews were called to a residential structure fire in the 100 block of West Ash Street Tuesday morning.
Officials said there were flames when the first unit of firefighters arrived shortly after 2:30 a.m., but they got the blaze quickly under control. Officials said there were no injuries reported.

According to the Columbia Fire Department, one dog was rescued from the home and everyone else was able to get out safely.
Firefighters said the duplex sustained heavy heat and smoke damage from the fire.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated and crews could not immediately re-enter the home due to an excessive amount of carbon monoxide.
