Despite sunshine, temperature remain on the cool side

TUESDAY: Despite the sunshine, it will be a cool day across Mid-Missouri. Northwesterly flow aloft will keep the cold air in place, but shifting winds through the day will begin the warming trend that will bring the return to spring. Highs today top out in the upper 40s and lower 50s, under mostly sunny skies.

TONIGHT: Temperatures will finally remain above freezing tonight with winds out of the south from 6-12 mph. By morning overnight lows will remain in the low 40s under partly cloudy skies.

EXTENDED: Southwest winds will be gusty to 35 mph Wednesday, warming temperatures into the lower 70s under mostly sunny skies. With a delay in moisture arriving into Mid-Missouri, there is a heightened fire danger for areas along and south of I-70. It’s extremely important to remember not to do any outdoor burning when these conditions are present. The warming continues into Thursday as we reach the upper 70s to near 80, making for a warm afternoon as winds continue to be gusty and from the southwest. Another cold front approaches on Friday bringing clouds and a chance for rain & storms. Showers are possible Friday morning but a line of showers and t-storms is more likely later in the day as the cold front gets closer. Strong to severe storms look possible and something we’ll monitor through the week. Much cooler air moves in next weekend with highs only near 50 Saturday and low to mid 40s Sunday. Nights will drop back to near freezing. We’re also watching for light precipitation Sunday which could start as a rain/ snow mix. Stay tuned to ABC 17 for the latest forecast and updates.
