Winter takes one more swing, spring arrives in full force by end of week

TONIGHT: We won’t have quite a cold night in store for us as a high pressure system settles our winds down a bit. It is still going to be much colder than usual with lows dropping to the middle to upper 20s. You’ll need that jacket once again as you head out the door in the morning.

SUNDAY: We’ll start out the morning cold, but dry as clouds will make their return by the lunch-time hour. We’ll see increasing chances of rain showers through the afternoon starting at 3pm for areas west of HWY 63, and slowly overspreading the area by 4pm. Interstate 70 looks to be the main transition zone between rain and snow as our southern counties will remain well above freezing through the afternoon and evening. The best chance of snow will remain to the north and even considering that, snowfall accumulations will be less than impressive. With marginal temps and precipitation rates remaining light, most places will see just wet roads, and minor accumulations under 0.5″– and that’s for the places that even manage to see snow.

EXTENDED: We could see a few evening sprinkles Monday afternoon as another disturbance pushes through the area. Southwestern portions of the viewing area have the best chances at seeing that rainfall. Drier weather moves in on Tuesday as more Spring-like weather heads toward Mid-Missouri. We’ll warm up to the middle 60s on Wednesday and near 70 Thursday before another storm system approaches the area toward the end of the week.
