Cold and wet start to the week, with windy conditions by Tuesday

TODAY: It will be remain cold this afternoon across Mid-Missouri. Thanks to overcast skies and snow cover on the ground, temperatures will be slow to rise through the day. Through the day showers will develop to our south and gradually track to the north. Areas that will still be below freezing could briefly see some freezing drizzle/rain. However, it will be short-lived as temperatures are expected to climb above freezing by the middle of the afternoon. Winds will remain out of the east up to 13 mph, making it feel more like the teens and lower 20s through the day.

TONIGHT: A developing low pressure to our west will lift a warm front through Mid-Missouri into the night. This will lead to rising temperatures overnight, despite the thick cloud cover that will be in place. The good news is that temperatures will be above freezing, so all precipitation will be in the form of rain. As the warm front lifts through Mid-Missouri, we could see a few strong storms develop on frontal boundary. With a low freezing level in the atmosphere, our main threat will be the potential for hail in any severe thunderstorm. A low of 43 is expected, with winds shifting out of the southeast up to 13 mph.

EXTENDED: After a steady climb in temperatures Tuesday morning, winds will shift out of the northwest by the afternoon behind another strong cold front that cuts through the area. Ahead of the front, we have the potential to spark off a few strong-to-severe storms Tuesday afternoon as well. This will primarily affect southeastern parts of Mid-Missouri. With moisture present ahead of the storms there could be enough instability to see an isolated potential of damaging winds, and a threat for large hail. It will be a very windy day for Tuesday, as highs winds will shift from the south out of the west up to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 to 30 mph. Wednesday morning looks cold behind the front as temperatures begin in the 20s and we struggle to rise in the 40s, but we will see full sunshine. The active and cold weather pattern sticks around, as another cold blast arrives into the weekend. Stay tuned to ABC 17 for the latest forecast and updates.
