Winter weather creates slick road conditions for drivers

Snow made its way through mid-Missouri Sunday afternoon making for some difficult travel conditions for drivers on Easter.

Several crashes were reported to Boone County Joint Communications starting around 6 p.m. after a layer of snow covered roads and highways.

Traffic moved slowly along I-70 after a car slid into the media near the East St. Charles Road exit. ABC 17 News was also on the scene of a rollover crash on Highway 40 just west of Columbia. People on scene said no one was hurt in the crash.

At 6:45 p.m. Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District said firefighters had responded to 4 wrecks across the country. Blomenkamp said the crashes were all minor.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a trooper’s patrol car was hit after a driver lost control on I-70 in Boone County. The Highway Patrol said no one was hurt and there was only minor damage to the patrol car.

Columbia Public Works brought in a 9-person crew at noon in anticipation of the winter weather.
