Active Easter Weekend Ahead

TODAY: A low pressure system in the Northern Great Plains is driving our weather today. As that system strengthens, our winds will be picking up. Winds will be out of the southwest at 12-18 mph with some gusts over 30 mph. Those winds will help keep us mild into the afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. Highs will top out in the upper 50s to low 60s. As this system swings a cold front toward Mid-Missouri, we will see a chance of showers, mainly this morning out ahead of the front. Once the front makes it through the region, our winds will turn out of the northwest, the effects of which we won’t fully feel until tomorrow.

TONIGHT : Skies will clear out briefly before clouding up in the early morning hours. Combine that with winds out of the north, and we’re going to be waking up to some well below normal temperatures in the upper 20s on our Easter Sunday.

EXTENDED : A pretty narrow band of snow will pass through the region early on Sunday morning north of I-70. But the main event will hold off until the afternoon hours for Mid-Missouri. It still appears that we could be getting some accumulations out of this system since we could be seeing some heavier snowfall rates. With highs reaching into the middle 30s, accumulations look to stay mainly on grassy, elevated surfaces, but some roads could become slick in the afternoon and evening hours. The best chance for that accumulating snow still looks to be around the I-70 corridor, with more of a mix of rain and snow south of Highway 50. We don’t get much of a rest between systems as our next system moves in on Monday, but we’ll thankfully warm up above freezing by that time. Rain chances look likely on Tuesday as well with highs near 50 both days before yet another cold front reaches the area. Watch ABC 17 News for the newest forecast and check back here for updates.
