Moberly recovers from flooding

Moberly is still cleaning-up from heavy intense rains that left them with flooding.

Some were left picking through the devastation.

ABC 17s spoke to a pastor who said he lost a distribution site for those in need.

Vic Comstock, the Pastor at Family Life Fellowship on North Williams Street said, “it’s been devastating across the board.”

The center was covered with mud this morning, and water levels reached up to three-six feet high yesterday.

Comstock said, “yesterday, it came down in torrential ways, and we had lots of pallets of food that we distribute for free out to the North Central Missouri and so we have a lot of damage there, a lot of loss of free food items now that we’ll have to replace to provide food for people that have needs in the area.”

Pallets of food floated around the inside of the center and the freezer was left frozen with layers of muddy water. They not only lost food, they lost clothing for the Wounded Warriors Program.

Comstock said they are forced to find a new distribution site, as the possibility of mold in the future will be a problem.

ABC 17 spoke to the Moberly Fire Chief who said they responded to about fifty calls yesterday. Most of the calls were due to people stranded in their vehicles.

Fire Chief George Albert said Public Works is currently cleaning things up right now, “debris that was washed onto the streets, they also had a lot of culverts that had been washed out, so they’ve got to put some new rocks and new tubing into some street.”

Albert said the city of Moberly will be doing an assessment of the damage to try and see if they will get any federal funding for the loss.

“We will do an assessment so we can understand how much of a loss it is going to be and see how much insurance will cover too,” said Albert.
