Boone County Fire warns of flooded roads at night

Rainfall overnight Monday and early Tuesday may cause water to cover some roads throughout mid-Missouri.

Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp said the agency did not have to rescue any drivers from flood waters on Monday morning, but expected rainfall will only increase the likelihood of flooded roads. This could mean drivers encounter flooded roads in the dark, and Blomenkamp said drivers should keep this in mind.

“If you don’t know where low water crossings are, if you’re driving on a road you’re unfamiliar with, and it can potentially flood, people need to slow down and stop before they enter that flooded roadway,” Blomenkamp said.

Blomenkamp advised that drivers not “over drive their headlights.” That means drivers should handle roads slowly enough that they can stop in time before running into something that appears in range of their headlights.
