Families receive free safety kits at Columbia event

Mid-Missouri organizations helped families prepare for emergency situations Saturday afternoon.

Operation KidSafe Child Safety Day was held at Synergy Sports in Columbia, hosted by Mid-America Specialty Markets and Nationwide Insurance.

Children were able to get their picture and digital fingerprints entered into a database for free. Parents were given a copy to show law enforcement to begin an Amber Alert.

“It’s a good time for us to get all this part done to make sure that in the event that the un-thinkable does happen, that we’re ready and we’ve got the ability to work with law enforcement too find them if we have too,” said Adam Crumbliss, who brought his children to the event Saturday.

The event comes just days after a reported attempted abduction in west Columbia. An 11-year-old boy told police a man told him to get into his car while walking home from Fairview Elementary Tuesday afternoon.

No arrests have been made in the case.
