UPDATE: Two die in serious crash that closed Highway 5

UPDATE 3:45 pm: According to the traffic crash report, a Chrysler Pacifica crossed the center lane of traffic and struck a Dodge Grand Caravan head on. The vehicles blocked the north and southbound lanes of traffic.

The driver of the Chrysler, Amber Metcalf, was killed The driver of the Dodge, Jessica Brazil, was also killed.

All three children have serious injuries.

UPDATE 1:45 pm: Troopers said the crash happened when a SUV and mini-van struck each other head on.

Officers said both drivers were killed and three children were injured in the mini-van. The children were transported to a Springfield hospital.

UPDATE 11:30 am: Camden County deputies have reported that two people have died as a result of the crash.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Team will be conducting an investigation.

UPDATE 11:05 am: Highway 5 has reopened.

ORIGINAL STORY: A crash on Highway 5 at the Niangua River has shut down traffic over the bridge there.

MoDot reported the bridge was shut down around 7:40 a.m. Thursday.

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers alerted the media that they were working a serious crash at that scene on the north end of the bridge near Forever Dr.

ABC17 News is in contact with troopers on the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.
