Harrisburg community to dedicate baseball field to coach killed in crash

The Harrisburg R-VIII School District will dedicate its baseball field Wednesday afternoon to honor one of their teachers and coaches who was killed in a car crash on Route F in September.

Brian Simpson, a history teacher and baseball coach, was driving a bus to a cross country meet when a truck driving in the wrong lane hit it head on.

Hundreds of Harrisburg residents gathered at the baseball field that night to pray for Simpson and his family.

Here is a photo of the shirt that community members will be wearing Wednesday night.

He left behind a wife, who also teaches at the school district, and a child.

The truck driver, 26-year-old Brandon Brill, was charged with second-degree murder. Brill’s trial is scheduled for Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. It’s expected to last five days.
