Columbia roofing company owner subject of several other complaints
A Columbia roofing company and its owner have faced numerous complaints over the last two years.
ABC 17 News reported on a stealing charge filed against Scott Treffert, owner of Signature Roofing, LLC last week. A judge issued a warrant for Treffert’s arrest on Sunday.
It’s not the first time a customer has reported being ripped off by Signature Roofing. The Missouri Attorney General has received seven complaints from former customers of the company, each saying they paid Treffert for work that was done incorrectly, or not done at all.
The list details incidents amounting to at least $44,568 lost to Signature Roofing.
Many of the complaints tell a similar story. A customer enters into an agreement with Treffert for work, and the customer’s insurance company pays. Several people report that Treffert did not show up for work on the day the two agree upon, and many say Treffert would provide several excuses to push the start date of the work back.
At the same time, the customer would report that Treffert would cash the checks given.
Treffert did not return a call or email on Wednesday about the warrant for his arrest or the complaints sent to the attorney general. A reporter that tried speaking to Treffert at his Boone County home could hear people inside the house, with one man saying that a reporter had tried to call him on Wednesday. No one answered the door.
Michelle Gleba with the Better Business Bureau said customers should get at least three estimates for any work they desire done from different contractors. The customer should enter into a contract, she said, and pay for the work in installments as the work progresses, rather than paying the full cost up front.
Columbia police wrote that Treffert took more than $12,000 from a customer on Rainbow Trout Drive in March 2017. A probable cause statement written in February said that the alleged victim entered into a contract with Treffert that month, and paid him $12,267.20 in three installments between March and June 2017.
A St. Charles County judge ordered Treffert and the company pay $116,750 in December for breaching a contract with ABC Supply Company, according to online court records.
