UPDATE: Driver arrested after downtown Columbia crash identified

UPDATE 9:20 a.m.: Columbia police said they arrested one person Tuesday morning after a car crashed and hit a pedestrian crosswalk signal.

Police said that after they responded to the area of Broadway and Waugh Street just before 4 a.m. for the crash, they contacted the driver, Bryce Calvin, at the scene.

Calvin told the officers he had been drinking, according to police. The officers gave Calvin a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test.

Police said the breath test showed that Calvin had a blood-alcohol content of .173. Police arrested Calvin on a charge of misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.

ORIGINAL: Columbia police said one person is in custody Tuesday morning after a single-car crash in downtown Columbia.

It happened just after 4 a.m. in the 1100 block of Broadway near the Broadway Hotel.

Officials said the car jumped the curb and hit a pedestrian crosswalk signal.

There were no injuries as a result of the crash.

ABC 17 News will follow up with police to get more information about possible charges.
