Convicted felon pleads guilty to possessing guns

Timothy Garrison, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Columbia man pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a gun.

Lorenzo Kemp, 20, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms. He admitted that he was in possession of two guns on Oct. 25, 2017.

Back in October, Columbia police found a stolen car that was occupied by Kemp and another person. The vehicle’s owner had reported earlier that morning that her car was stolen from her residence after she left the vehicle running and unlocked.

Kemp was accused of running on foot but was arrested after a short pursuit. Officers noticed a black bag near Kemp and found the two guns and 28.75 grams of marijuana.

Garrison said Kemp has a priory felony conviction for forgery.

Kemp could face up to 10 years in federal prison without parole. According to public jail records, Kemp is currently in the Cole County Jail.
