Callaway County Collector resigns after reports of suspicious activity on county’s checking account
The Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney, Christopher Wilson, announced on Thursday that the Callaway County Collector resigned.
Wilson said officials from Central Bank met with him to discuss suspicious activity on a Callaway County checking account maintained by the County Collector.
The Callaway County Sheriff’s Department and Wilson contacted the FBI immediately.
Pam Oestreich, the Callaway County Collector, met with county officials and tendered her resignation effective immediately. Her resignation from office was accepted by a unanimous vote of the County Commission.
The County Clerk, Denise Hubbard, has immediately taken charge of tax records from the County Collector’s Office
The County Clerk will appoint a representative to audit those records.
The Commission voted to temporarily close the Office of County Collectors on Thursday and will work with the clerk to meet the needs of the Callaway County citizens while honoring the statutory obligations of the audit process.
