Suttner family settles wrongful death lawsuit
The family of a Glasgow teenager that committed suicide in 2016 plan to settle a wrongful death suit.
The filing was made public on Monday in Cole County ahead of a Tuesday hearing with Judge Patricia Joyce. The terms of the proposed settlement are confidential, according to the petition.
Those involved in the case are identified only by their initials. M.S. and A.S. are both referred to as the parents of K.S., suing over the death of their son, K.S. The date of the death listed, Dec. 21, 2016, in Glasgow is the same as that of Kenneth Suttner.
The suit names “A.D. Corporation” and “G.E. Inc.” as the defendants. Payment of the settlement comes from Allied Insurance Company of America, according to the petition.
Suttner’s suicide sparked a coroner’s inquest in Howard County. That hearing led to criminal charges being filed against Harley Branham, Suttner’s former manager at the Fayette Dairy Queen, for first-degree involuntary manslaughter. Special prosecutor April Wilson dropped that charge in exchange for felony stalking, two counts of assault and two counts of harassment.
